Griffin blasts Obama's plans for NASA

In an opinion piece by Mark Whittington of Associated Content former NASA administrator Mike Griffin blasts the Obama administration's Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for quietly planning to transform NASA into a "Potemkin Space Program," Griffin said.

Griffin was appointed NASA Administrator by President Bush in 2005 and resigned in December. President Obama has yet to appoint Griffin's successor. He was recently appointed an eminent scholar and professor by the University of Alabama at Huntsville. The accusations were delivered during a speech to a National Space Club Dinner on Friday, April 17.

The term "Potemkin Village" refers to an artificial American town constructed in the former Soviet Union for the purpose of training agents to live underground in the United States during the Cold War.
